The Home
Seven Seven Seven is one of the Roaring Fork Valley’s rare straw bale homes — walls nearly two feet thick, naturally cool in summer, warm in winter, and acoustically serene. The result is a home that feels grounded in its landscape in a way conventional construction simply cannot replicate.
Three bedrooms, a bonus guest room with twin bed and writing desk just off the kitchen, two bathrooms, a full chef’s kitchen, washer & dryer, and high-speed wifi. Two decks — one off the master, one off the living room — blur the line between inside and out.
The plastered walls catch mountain light differently at every hour. Deep window wells frame the views like paintings. The arched doorways and pine floors complete an interior that feels more like a sanctuary than a rental.
The Land
Step outside and the mountain opens up. Miles of walking and hiking trails wind across 35 private acres of native landscape — through oak brush, open meadows, and quiet stands of aspen. The stone table outside becomes the natural center of gravity for mornings, evenings, and everything in between.
The night sky here is something guests don’t forget. Dark sky compliant lighting means the stars come out in full — the Milky Way visible on clear summer nights from your own land.
Our Ethos
This property was built and is maintained with a deep respect for its place on the mountain. Nothing here is performative — the sustainability is structural, literal, and lived.
Walls made from straw — a renewable agricultural byproduct with exceptional insulating properties. High thermal mass means less energy to heat and cool. The building itself is the sustainability story.
The property draws from its own natural water source and manages waste through an on-site septic system — operating independently of municipal infrastructure with minimal environmental footprint.
All exterior lighting is dark sky compliant — protecting the nocturnal environment, preserving the star-filled nights, and honoring the wildlife that shares this mountain.
No lawn. No irrigation. The 35 acres are maintained in their native state — oak brush, native grasses, wildflowers — supporting the local ecosystem without artificial inputs.
The land functions as an active wildlife corridor. Elk, deer, sage grouse, fox, and raptors move through freely. Development has been intentionally minimized to preserve habitat and migration patterns.
Guests are invited to explore and to leave the land exactly as they found it. Carbondale’s farmers market, local food connections, and a low-impact living philosophy make this ethos easy to live by.
